Initial Greenlight Appointment

By now, you’ve probably received what feels like a billion and seven reminders to schedule your initial Greenlight appointment . . . or maybe you’re already ahead of the game and snagged a spot during the first few weeks of classes. Either way, we can’t wait to meet you—and to hear all about your interests and passions! ✨

What IS a Greenlight Appointment?

An initial Greenlight appointment is your very first meeting with the CLS, where you’ll get to know your assigned Exploratory Adviser. This conversation is meant to be relaxed and open-ended—a chance to share your professional curiosities, hopes, and ambitions. It’s also an opportunity to get oriented to the many ways the CLS can support you as you explore who you are, what excites you, and where your goals may take you!

Whether thinking about the future makes you a little anxious, or you’ve known your dream career since childhood, our Exploratory Team is here to support you. Most importantly, your Greenlight appointment is the key to unlocking everything the CLS has to offer, including access to funding and grants, the Career Clothing Closet, area-specific advising, and so much more. How to Schedule Your Initial Greenlight Appointment

To schedule your initial Greenlight appointment (and all appointments with our Career Communities, Global Fellowships and Awards, Employer Engagement, and the Career Clothing Closet), you’ll need to set up your profile on Handshake. In addition to appointments, Handshake is where you’ll register for CLS events and browse thousands of internships and jobs!


1.) Once you’ve built your profile, you can then click on “Career Center” on the top, left side of the screen.
*for app users, you’ll need to first click on the profile button in the upper left corner
2.) Click on “Appointments.”
3.) Click on “Schedule A New Appointment.”
4.) Select “Getting Started with the CLS!” at the top of the appointment list (this should be the only option available).
5.) Choose “First Year Exploratory Appointment with …” (this will be the name of your assigned Exploratory Adviser).
6.) You can then use the arrows to look ahead at open meeting times and choose one that works for you. Click on each date to see the appointments available for that day.


Please note that if an in-person option isn’t available on a particular date, your adviser is working remotely that day. You’re welcome to schedule a virtual meeting or select another date that offers in-person availability—we’re so excited to meet you!
