Ready to Volunteer? Community Partner Highlight: Mid-Iowa Community Action

Mid-Iowa Community Action, or MICA, is our community food bank, but also so much more than that! From emergency assistance with heat, energy, water, or food to intensive one-on-one home visiting and early childhood education, MICA has touched the lives of hundreds of thousands of central Iowans in our nearly sixty years of operation. It provides services that wrap around a family and address their needs.

Mission: Helping People. Changing Lives. Building Communities.  Some of our most well-known programs include Head Start, Family Development and Self-Sufficiency (FaDSS), the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), and WIC (Women, Infants and Children).

Needs:

  • Working in the food pantry, greeting families and determining their needs.
  • Making referrals to resources in the community as well as within MICA.
  • Helping distribute food to those in need and helping to increase capacity with donations from the community.
  • Head Start is looking for people to interact with children (ages 3 and 4). Activities would include reading, playing games, and doing activities with the children.
