We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented GIS Intern to join our Street Department team. This internship offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) while contributing to the maintenance and management of essential Street Department infrastructure.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION: The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all- inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Conduct field data collection of street department assets including but not limited to signs, pavement markings, streetlights, and other relevant infrastructure.
- Utilize ArcGIS Pro software & web applications to accurately capture and record asset information, ensuring data integrity and quality.
- Support other GIS-related projects and initiatives within the Street Department as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
- Proficiency in ESRI GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS Online/Portal, Field Maps & Web Apps).
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, particularly in data collection and management.
- Basic GPS knowledge.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively with supervisor and co-workers.
- Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, humidity, rain, standing water, fumes, severe weather, bright sunlight, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards and animal/insect bites.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- High school diploma.
- Currently pursuing a degree in Geography, Geographic Information Systems, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Indiana driver’s license.
