Creating Quick Links to Your Portfolio

The best way to catch an employer’s eye is by sharing work that you’ve done. But sometimes work samples–even when they are posted online–are not very share-friendly. Fortunately, it’s easy–and free–to create a customized QR code or tiny URL. You might see these shortcuts all the time around campus, on event posters. But you can use them yourself for your personal advertising materials–like business cards, resumes, cover letters, and more!

To generate and download a free, customized QR code, use this free code generator on Adobe Express. QR codes are especially useful on printed material that people might see on the go–like a business card or a poster.

You can create a free, customized abbreviated URL on TinyUrl.com. There’s no need to create an account. The first part of your weblink will be “tinyurl.com/” and then you will create an easy-t0-remember alias. For example, if you wanted to create a link to a search for all the articles you have written for the Scarlet & Black, you could have your name be the alias, followed by “SB”. Tiny URLs are great for websites and documents that people peruse with a greater attention to detail–such as resumes, cover letters, and portfolios.

QR codes and tiny URLs are great ways to make it easy to share and access all your professional materials–and they also show that you are tech savvy. So share away!
