Debra is the Technology Support Supervisor at UNC Charlotte. Her day-to-day role is to oversee the technical support department of the registrar’s office, troubleshooting transcript and registration issues for both faculty and students. Debra also has big projects in the pipeline, such as the current streamline of online registration processes.

>> My name is Deborah Joyce. I work here at the University of North Carolina Charlotte. I am the technical support supervisor in the Office of the Registrar. We maintain and update and train staff on using the university student information system. Right now, we are implementing a new degree audit software so we're right now daily as we're meeting with departments, with faculty, advisors, making sure that we have audits for the students that are correct. We do a lot of troubleshooting when issues arise. We get a call from someone saying this doesn't look right in the system. Can you help us or the student can't register. Why can't they register? So we do a lot of troubleshooting on a daily basis. I have two other staff members who work. They're more of the functional side. They deal with the setting up the database, troubleshooting if there are any issues. We also process grades, transcripts. Like I said, we work in a degree audit system so we're working on streamlining that. Right now, it takes four to six weeks for us to review all the students. We're trying to get that down so that we can do that within hopefully a week or two, maybe a week if at all possible. So that's what we -- our charge is to keep things moving, keep things accurate that streamline process as well. The biggest project we are working on currently is the -- we're implementing a [inaudible] software called Degree Works. What that will allow is for students to have an audit of what they need to graduate. Their advisors will be using it but that means we have to program or scribe every degree program on this campus, and it needs to be accurate so the goal is to use that to clear a student for graduation. So that's our big project right now. We're also trying to automate the change of major process. Right now that is more manual so we're trying to make it so that can be submitted and update the database without our intervention. [ Silence ]
