Requirements for Funded Students

Students who are offered CLS summer internship funding must formally accept or decline their award. If you accept your award, you will be asked to confirm that you understand the CLS’s requirements for funding recipients. You will also be asked to provide emergency contact information and a signed waiver [download PDF here]. If you decline your award, you will not be re-considered for CLS funding this summer.

Recipients of internship funding must complete the following requirements:

Before the internship begins:

  1. Attend an internship funding orientation with CLS staff before the end of the spring semester
  2. Complete a self-assessment of your professional skills
  3. If applicable, enroll in INT-300

During the internship:

  1. An introductory meeting with a CLS adviser at the beginning of the experience to discuss your goals and make sure you are supported as you begin your work
  2. A second meeting with your CLS adviser toward the end of your internship to reflect on the experience and map out next steps

Before the end of the summer:

  1. Complete a second self-assessment of your professional skills
  2. Complete a form thanking the donors that make our funding possible
  3. Update your résumé to include your internship experience
  4. Add your summer experience to your Handshake and LinkedIn profiles
  5. Prepare answers to sample behavioral interview questions, drawing on your internship experience

Students who do not complete these requirements will be ineligible for any CLS funding for one year.

Recipients should also understand these conditions:

  • The Accounting office will deposit your funding award to your bank account on file with Grinnell College after you have completed the acceptance form above and submitted your signed waiver.
  • This funding is specific to the internship in your funding application. If you withdraw from that experience or change internship organizations without CLS approval, you will need to return your funding.
  • Recall that summer internship funding eligibility is contingent on returning to Grinnell College in the fall. If you transfer or withdraw from the College, you will need to return your funding.
