Scott Shepherd ’82 (he/him) grew up in New Jersey. He attended Grinnell, majoring in religious studies. Laura Shepherd ’82 (she/her) grew up in Tulsa. She attended Grinnell majoring in American studies and got her teaching certificate. They met in Norris their sophomore year and have been together ever since. That was 1979. Upon graduation, they wanted to stay together. Laura had better job prospects, so they moved to Tulsa. Laura began as an early childhood educator teaching pre-K, kindergarten and first grade. She taught for over 30 years. Scott started working for the natural gas utility as a meter reader. He worked for the same company for 35 years, working his way through the organization. Most of his roles were people leader roles and he retired as a vice-president.
Laura and Scott enjoy meeting with current Grinnell students, will work with students to create a job shadow experience in their hometown of Tulsa, are pleased to serve as mentors, and return to campus regularly, maintaining their connection to campus in many ways including their favorite: February alumni care packages.
