After graduating from Grinnell College with a degree in Biochemistry, Jake Hull (he/him) continued his education at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry, where he is currently pursuing his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree. Jake shares, “My experiences at Grinnell, both academically and as a member of the baseball team, helped prepare me for the challenges of dental school and strengthened my interest in healthcare. I enjoy dentistry because it combines science, problem-solving, and hands-on skills while providing the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with patients. Outside of school, I enjoy sports, working out, golfing, and spending time with friends and family.”

Jake is happy to help current Grinnell students who are interested in dentistry or other health professions. He can provide insight into the dental school application process, preparing for the DAT, interviewing, choosing schools, and transitioning from Grinnell to professional school. Jake is also available to answer questions about what dental school is like and share what he has learned throughout the pre-dental process. Connect with Jake on LinkedIn or email him directly with your questions.

About Grinnell, Jake remembers, “What I loved most about Grinnell were the people and the relationships I built during my time there. Being a student-athlete and playing baseball gave me some of my favorite memories and introduced me to lifelong friends. Academically, Grinnell challenged me to become more independent, disciplined, and comfortable working through difficult material. Balancing a rigorous course load with athletics taught me time management and perseverance, which have been extremely valuable in dental school. Looking back, I am grateful for both the challenges and experiences I had at Grinnell because they helped prepare me for where I am today.”
