Position Description

View seeks a dynamic and collaborative Visual Arts Manager. They would be responsible for the overall management of the exhibitions program. This full-time position plays a key role in shaping View’s visual arts offerings and enhancing community engagement. The Visual Arts Manager reports directly to the Executive Director.

Key Responsibilities

Exhibition Planning & Implementation

  • Collaborate with the Visual Arts Committee (VAC) and View staff to design and deliver exhibitions and related programming that reflect and advance View’s mission, vision, and brand.
  • Collaborate with regional and national artists, volunteers, interns, and audiences.
  • Develop and facilitate artist talks, demonstrations, educational initiatives, and partnerships that enrich the visual arts experience.
  • Oversee the program’s budget, keeping track of sales, sponsorships and donations.

Committee Coordination

  • Schedule and facilitate VAC meetings, including preparing and distributing agendas and meeting summaries.
  • Maintain the exhibition calendar and oversee all related logistics.

Gallery & Exhibition Management

  • Draft and manage artist and juror contracts, including timelines, deliverables, compensation, and responsibilities.
  • Oversee gallery operations: installation/deinstallation, shipping, storage, and insurance of loaned works.
  • Produce exhibition materials: wall text, labels, vinyl signage, gallery guides, catalogs, and interpretive content.
  • Manage Calls for Submissions via CaFE and View’s website; coordinate juror access and artist communications.
  • Ensure accepted artists receive all necessary information; assign submission numbers and coordinate with the Front Desk.
  • Write and distribute press releases, website updates, and social media content related to exhibitions.

Signature Events

  • Assist in the planning and execution of the Annual Plein Air Paint Out (PAPO) and the Adirondack Quilt Conference in collaboration with VAC, PAPO, and the Quilts Advisory Group.

Budget & Operations

  • Prepare and manage the annual Visual Arts budget in partnership with the Finance Executive Director.
  • Ensure gallery safety and maintenance; recommend equipment purchases and repairs as needed.

Community Engagement & Outreach

  • Build partnerships with local schools to support arts education and student engagement.
  • Cultivate relationships with peer organizations and individuals to foster collaboration and strengthen the Adirondack cultural ecosystem.
  • Stay informed of trends and opportunities through engagement with regional and national arts organizations, museums, galleries, and media; attend relevant conferences and meetings to represent View and expand professional networks.
