Entry-Level Systems Engineer – Advanced Defense Systems

The Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division is seeking entry-level engineers and scientists to support the development, integration, and testing of advanced defense and mission systems for U.S. Navy platforms.

This position is ideal for recent graduates or early-career professionals interested in systems engineering, defense technologies, mission integration, and real-world engineering applications supporting national security.

As part of this role, you will work alongside experienced engineers and multidisciplinary technical teams supporting system development efforts across air, land, and maritime platforms.

What You’ll Do

  • Support systems engineering and integration efforts for advanced defense systems
  • Assist with requirements development, system analysis, and technical documentation
  • Participate in system design, integration, testing, and troubleshooting activities
  • Support Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and systems engineering processes
  • Collaborate with software, test, safety, and configuration management teams
  • Participate in technical meetings, engineering reviews, and working groups
  • Assist in evaluating system performance and identifying improvement opportunities
  • Support the development and communication of technical findings and engineering recommendations

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Interest in systems engineering, defense systems, or complex integrated technologies
  • Familiarity with engineering design principles and problem-solving methodologies
  • Exposure to systems engineering concepts, modeling tools, or technical analysis through coursework, internships, or projects
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within technical teams
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness to learn in a fast-paced engineering environment

Minimum Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance
  • Bachelor’s degree (or expected graduation) in:
    • Systems Engineering
    • Electrical Engineering
    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Aerospace Engineering
    • Computer Engineering
    • Computer Science
    • Mathematics
    • Physics
    • Or a related STEM field
