The CLS wants to give you money.

Do you need financial support to make your summer experience dreams come true? CLS summer internship funding is here to help!

CLS internship funding supports summer experiences that are:

  • Unpaid or low-paid (less than minimum wage at the location of the internship).
  • At least six weeks long with a minimum of 30 hours of work per week.
  • Secured—offered and accepted—at the time of application.
  • Not sponsored by Grinnell College faculty or staff.
  • In-person, remote, or hybrid—there are no restrictions on location or format.

The application opens on Monday, February 2, and the final application deadline is April 5.*

There are several opportunities coming up to learn more about CLS funding:

  • Info session on January 28, 4:00 pm, in JCC 010
  • Tabling in the JRC (outside the dining hall) on February 11 and March 3, 11 – 1
  • Drop-in funding application review at the CLS (2nd floor atrium):
    • March 25, 3 – 5 pm
    • March 30, 10 am – noon

Internship funding is competitive and not guaranteed. While we try to fund as many student experiences as possible, demand exceeds available funds each year. Questions? Email Sarah Barks, CLS Assistant Dean & Director of Analytics & Operations.

* If you have an internship related to public affairs, international relations, human rights, or a related area, you can apply for funding from the Rosenfield Program. That deadline is March 1. Talk to Prof. Ed Cohn in History for more information.
