Hackathons as resume builders

If you are considering a career in software and are wondering how to get ahead, consider attending a hackathon.

Hackathons are events where you and teammates compete to create software, a product, or some other deliverable of a central theme. They might last a few hours up to a few days.

If you have software knowledge, but not many projects or professional experience in the field, competing in these events is a great way to showcase the culmination of your current skills. Moreover, recruiters, peers, and possible mentors frequent Hackathons.

Here are a few Hackathons you may consider joining:

and of course, Pioneer Weekend at Grinnell.

There are many other Hackathons out there, virtual and in-person, that may better fit your interests. For example, if you like games, consider signing up for a game jam.

Do you have a favorite Hackathon event?
