In an effort to improve empathy and civility in clinical settings, the University of Illinois Chicago and OSF Health Care have developed animated videos depicting the same nurse-patient interaction from each perspective. Collectively titled “The Silent Exchange”, the series consists of two videos: “A Nurse’s Day,” intended for viewing by patients and families to highlight the pressures nurses face at work, and “A Family’s Day,” intended for viewing by nursing staff to remind them of the fear and frustration patients and families often feel in clinical settings. Both videos end with the same message: “Everyone’s stressed. Let’s help each other.”
