In February 2025, we asked students arriving at the CLS to share their experiences using artificial intelligence (AI) for career development-related tasks, and 28 students shared their experiences! Check out the specific questions and responses below.
Have you used artificial intelligence (AI) in your career journey?
Drafting a cover letter: 25% said they have, 32.1% said they haven’t but would, 32.1% said they would never consider using AI for this, and 10.7% said they didn’t know AI could be used for this.
Developing or updating a résumé: 32.1% said they have, 21.4% said they haven’t but would, 39.2% said they would never consider using AI for this, and 7.1% said they didn’t know AI could be used for this.
Generating a professional headshot: 3.5% said they have, 7.1% said they haven’t but would, 53.5% said they would never consider using AI for this, and 35.7% said they didn’t know AI could be used for this.
Career exploration & decision-making: 21.4% said they have, 32.1% said they haven’t but would, 25% said they would never consider using AI for this, and 17.8% said they didn’t know AI could be used for this.
Searches for opportunities (jobs, internships, and more): 10.7% said they have, 57.1% said they haven’t but would, 17.8% said they would never consider using AI for this, and 14.2% said they didn’t know AI could be used for this.
Drafting application-related essays, personal statements, or long-form answers: 32.1% said they have, 14.2% said they haven’t but would, 53.57% said they would never consider using AI for this, and nobody answered that they didn’t know AI could be used for this.
Drafting correspondence including outreach emails & thank you notes: 42.8% said they have, 32.1% said they haven’t but would, 25% said they would never consider using AI for this, and nobody answered that they didn’t know AI could be used for this.
